La baraja de Papayon: Arte más allá del azar

Collection Statement

Deck uses the language of the playing card to reconsider the dualities through which we understand the world. Familiar symbols are stripped of their fixed meanings and reassembled into new narratives, where opposing forces—fortune and loss, order and disorder, certainty and doubt—exist not as absolutes but as parts of the same human experience.

Beginning

The series began with an interest in the visual and symbolic weight of the playing card—a familiar object carrying centuries of superstition, entertainment, and social ritual. By removing the cards from the gaming table and placing them into a painterly context, each piece became an opportunity to reconsider ideas of fortune, power, sacrifice, and survival through contemporary experience. The series continues to expand as new cards and new narratives emerge.
