No Witnesses (2026)
No Witnesses was a solo exhibition by Papayon presented at The Wine Room in Houston’s Chelsea Museum District, opening on January 22, 2026.
The exhibition brought together works that explored pursuit, fate, and the theatrical weight of judgment through contemporary figurative painting and symbolic imagery. Central to the exhibition were works connected to the Requiem tradition, including Dies Irae and O Fortuna, where Dobermans pursue a hare in a charged visual sequence that evokes instinct, vulnerability, and inevitability.
Rather than treating the chase as a literal scene, No Witnesses approached it as a psychological and spiritual condition. The predator and the hunted became opposing forces within the same visual field: discipline and terror, power and fragility, violence and surrender.
Presented in an intimate setting, the exhibition encouraged close viewing and quiet confrontation. The works balanced movement and restraint, using repetition, tension, and symbolic force to examine what happens when judgment arrives without audience, defense, or witness.
