View Exhibition →Where the Vultures Gather explores the uneasy relationship between survival and inevitability. Against a muted, atmospheric ground, a lone rider raises a revolver while dark birds circle overhead, transforming a familiar Western image into a meditation on endurance and uncertainty.
Rather than depicting action, the work lingers in the moment before it. The rider and the scavengers occupy the same fragile space, suggesting that danger is often less about confrontation than about the awareness that it is near.
The restrained palette heightens the psychological tension, allowing gesture and silhouette to carry the narrative. Suspended between vulnerability and defiance, Where the Vultures Gather reflects on the choices made when the outcome remains unknown.
Through this quiet standoff, Papayon continues his exploration of resilience, mythology, and the enduring symbolism of the American West.
