Confutatis

Part of Papayon’s Requiem series, Confutatis presents a pursuit in which the roles of predator and prey remain unsettled. A hare runs as two dogs close in, while an alligator disrupts the expected order of the scene.

Rather than resolving the chase, the work suspends each figure within the same uncertain cycle of instinct, vulnerability, and consequence. Its title, drawn from the liturgical Requiem, evokes judgment and mortality without revealing who ultimately escapes—or who becomes the hunted.
