Aquina has traveled farther than I ever expected.

I first created the work through an early collaboration with photographer Ervey, building the painting from one of his photographs. At the time, I couldn't have imagined the path it would eventually take.

Years later, a collector encountered the piece in a café in Hermosillo. It stayed with him.

Some time after that, he came across another of my works during a museum exhibition. The connection hadn't disappeared. Instead, it had grown into a conversation about the work and the journey it had taken.

Although he lived outside the city, he chose to wait until the museum exhibition had concluded rather than interrupt its public life. Only then did Aquina continue its journey to its new home in El Paso, Texas.

Some works are sold quickly.

Others spend years quietly introducing themselves.
