The ancient story of burning one's ships became the starting point for this work. More than a military strategy, the gesture represents the moment when a decision changes the course of a life. The painting reflects the distance created by choice and the uncertainty that follows, where commitment and sacrifice become inseparable.

A sense of determination mixed with loss. The work invites viewers to consider the cost of moving forward and the weight carried by those who choose uncertain futures over familiar ground.

Artist's Note

The painting began with the idea of burning one's ships.

I was interested in the moment after the decision has been made, when there is no certainty that the choice was right, only the understanding that moving forward has become necessary. The figure does not celebrate or regret what has happened behind him. He simply carries the consequences of the path he chose.
