A solitary figure leads a horse across an uncertain landscape beneath a sky marked by descending layers of color and light. Neither the destination nor the purpose of the journey is revealed. Instead, the work lingers in a moment of continued movement, where the horizon remains distant and the ground itself appears unsettled.

Part of the Constructed Relics series, The Ground Keeps Moving explores what persists when certainty disappears. The fractured frame, built as an integral part of the work, carries its own signs of erosion, repair, and survival, echoing the passage contained within the image.

The work offers no resolution. It leaves open the question of what compels us forward when neither arrival nor outcome can be guaranteed.

Original work by Papayon — Latin American contemporary artist based in Houston, TX. Framed mixed media painting, oil, resin and concrete 14.5 × 17.5in. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide.

About This Work

Artist's Note

The Ground Keeps Moving began with a simple image: a figure walking forward while little else is explained. The painting does not reveal what happened before this moment or what may follow after it. The journey itself is not the subject.

What interested me was the tension between permanence and movement. The horizon appears fixed, while the surface beneath the figures feels unstable and shifting. The fractured frame extends that idea beyond the image, carrying visible traces of erosion, repair, and time.

Rather than describing a specific narrative, the work considers a condition familiar to most lives: the world continues to move regardless of past victories, past failures, or present uncertainty. What remains unresolved is left for the viewer to determine.
