View Exhibition →By the Horn is part of Papayon’s Constructed Relics series, where painting and frame are conceived as a single object carrying the marks of time and memory.
A rider struggles to maintain control as horse and figure rise together in a moment of uncertainty. Rather than illustrating triumph or defeat, the work explores commitment—the instant when retreat is no longer possible and the only option is to hold on.
The sculptural frame extends the narrative beyond the image itself, transforming the work into a contemporary relic. In Constructed Relics, objects do not preserve history as it happened, but the choices and tensions that continue to shape it.
