A hare hangs suspended between two Dobermans against a pink ground. Its forelegs extend toward the ropes held in their mouths, creating an arrangement in which restraint and support become difficult to distinguish. The dogs appear to hold their prey, yet the hare could just as easily be holding their leads.

Part of Papayon’s Requiem series, Agnus Dei takes its title from the Latin “Lamb of God.” The hare’s outstretched posture evokes crucifixion, introducing sacrifice and surrender into a scene whose quiet balance leaves authority uncertain. Each figure depends on the tension maintained by the others. Who holds whom remains unresolved.
