Exposed strips portraiture down to its simplest confrontation: a face meeting another face. There is no elaborate setting, no symbolism to shield the subject, only expression and the evidence of the artist's hand.
Layered strokes of encaustic and oil leave traces of hesitation, revision, and instinct. Rather than chasing likeness, the painting searches for presence—the quiet tension between what we reveal and what we keep to ourselves.
The direct gaze offers no explanation. Strength and vulnerability occupy the same space, asking whether being seen is an act of courage or surrender.
Sometimes exposure is not a loss of protection.
Sometimes it is the beginning of honesty.
